This blog is my attempt to fill the void of a company website. I work in a small multidisciplinary Architecture and Engineering firm. Much of our work is repair and alterations to older buildings. In fact, many of these buildings were built as way to get out of the depression in the 1930's. Our major client is the U.S. Postal Service, and the type of building we work on are federalist buildings, Main Post Offices, often on Main St, anytown, USA.
These buildings are beautiful. They usually maintain their original interiors, in some case grand marble entrances, or two story arched ceilings with gold gilded plaster work. The US Postal Service is suffering, many feel that they suffer from the lack of need of the postal system. I'm not convinced. UPS and FedEx strive, there is a need for a cheaper competitor, and the post office has been it for so long. From my perspective these buildings are iconic; they represent many things. the post office as an icon is worth at least a post of its own.
I will post about many post office projects(there is some irony in that statement), but my bigger goal is to post about my position as an architect. I want to discuss the projects I have worked on, the projects I am currently working on, and the projects I hope to work on. Additionally, I will post about my dreams as a developer. The projects I know are worthwhile, the thought process behind them, and the way in which I work to help get them built.
I am first an Architect. Recently, I finished my Master's degree in Community and Regional Planning, where my focus was housing and development with a subset of learning focused on sustainable communities. I see the world at both the macro and micro scale.
